Group Class Enthusiast
As a group class enthusiast, you’re probably always on the lookout to find the latest and greatest new fitness class. It’s likely that you’ve experimented with many different kinds of group classes: pilates, yoga, Zumba, Crossfit, reformer classes, spin, running, cross training, HIIT, weight training…we could go on but you get the idea. If you’re a group class enthusiast, we applaud you for your commitment to physical fitness and for being an active adult. Unfortunately, this also puts you at risk for developing common injuries from certain group classes.
We know it doesn’t seem to make sense. Shouldn’t being active make you more healthy, not less? Usually yes, but being a fan of group classes also makes you susceptible to developing injuries. Common injuries related for group class fanatics may include:
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Shoulder pain
- Bicep tendinitis
- Shoulder labral tears
- Hip labral tears
- A torn meniscus
- IT band pain
- Herniated discs
- Neck pain
- …and more
While these are technically common injuries for group class fiends like yourself, they’re not here to scare you away from signing up for your favorite classes. We just want you to know how to correctly train to prevent them from happening. Physiotherapy, for example, is a great way to strengthen the muscles you use in these classes. Not only will you keep yourself safe, but you may even see better results from your workouts. Who doesn’t want that?
So keep up with your power yoga, stay involved in the Crossfit community, or even consider joining one of Next Level Physio’s Adult Group Classes. Learning proper technique will help prevent injuries, which will keep you having fun in your group fitness classes for the long haul.
