Pickleball Injuries
Pickleball has gained major popularity in recent years and we can totally see why! This tennis/ping-pong/badminton crossover is played with a paddle and a perforated plastic ball. It’s meant to be a little easier than tennis and badminton but equally athletic and competitive. Fun fact: pickleball was first invented in 1965 by three middle-aged dads in Washington state. One of the fathers had a dog named Pickles, and so the game pickleball was born.
Get yourself to a pickleball court and you’ll instantly see how active this game is. While that’s great for keeping active adults physically fit (something we love here at Next Level Physio), it also puts them at risk for developing pickleball injuries. Common injuries in pickleball may include:
- Wrist pain
- Elbow pain
- Knee pain
- Ankle pain
- Hip pain
- Low back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Tennis elbow
- …and more
While these may be common injuries in pickleball, we don’t put them here to deter you from picking up the sport. Rather, we just want you to be safe when playing and know what to look out for so you can prevent them from occurring in the first place. One of the best ways to do that is by working with a physiotherapist to strengthen the muscles you use in pickleball. Not only will you keep yourself safe while on the court, but may even start racking up the points and beating your opponents more often. Who doesn’t want that?
Whether you’re experiencing a pickleball injury or just need some guidance on how to prevent one, Next Level Physio is here for you.
